At this price you will not find anything to match these for overall musicality and fidelity to source (put that to the test, though, of course). Much of the clarity is due to Linn's "2K Array," which improves the translation of subtle details back into acoustic energy. You don't have to be a fan of violin or flute to appreciate the advantage: vocals that might sometimes be peaky and indistinct with conventional tweeters become clearer and smoother with the 2K Array.
For the central octaves, Linn have eschewed the industry standard of using a dual purpose bass/mid driver, and have instead provided a dedicated and optimised midrange system with its own rear enclosure. This further contributes to precision and smoothness. In terms of pitch integrity and dynamics, this mid driver is the sonic equal of those found in more expensive speakers, and seems to vindicate Linn's decision to have drivers made to their own specification rather than buying 'off the shelf.'
The lowest octaves are reproduced by an integral sub woofer system Linn call "Isobarik" (after the isobaric principle upon which the system is based). Linn are known for providing satisfying, natural bass from a compact cabinet, and the benefits will especially please fans of intricate bass guitar. Low chords on piano are pleasing, too.
Your future two or three sets of speakers: Majik Isobariks are, like all Linn products, engineered to last decades. If you later have a yen to hear even more from your music collection, you might upgrade to "Linn Exakt," "Linn Aktiv" (bass active) or "Linn Aktiv" (full active). Each configuration has its merits, which I discuss in relation to client requirements.
Recommended source and amplification: Linn "Majik" amplifiers are superb, and are the natural choice here, but these speakers will easily reveal the benefits of their dearer amplifiers. Source quality should be as high as possible; any attempt to skimp in that department will be clearly exposed by a speaker of this quality.
Regarding finish options: menu finishes include 'piano' (black or white) and a range of beautiful real wood veneers (choice of light and dark woods, satin or gloss - some shown above). A bespoke finishing service is also available.
The final, elusive ingredient: to obtain full value from your investment, expert installation and after sales care by a Linn specialist are essential. In all respects, you're in the right place here.
