Epos was founded in 1983 by Robin Marshall, and in 1999 it joined with Creek Audio. It had been apparent to Robin and Mike (Creek) that there was a similarity of ethos between the two brands, and that sound quality and value could be further enhanced through collaboration...

Based on what I've heard of their post-merger products, the plan is working beautifully. To read more background on Epos, please click here.

In recent years, Creek and Epos have optimised the performance-to-price ratio of their products by establishing production in China, while maintaining R&D back 'home' in the UK.

More and more consumers are learning that Chinese factories can produce products to any standard; IE from plain rubbish through to hyper-lux.

For example, it's unlikely the acclaimed Creek "Destiny 2" amplifier, or the awe-inspiring Epos "Encore 50" loudspeakers could sound better if they were made in Britain, but they would certainly cost at least three times the current price... Ultimately, product quality is about policy (and its enforcement), rather than the physical location of a factory.

In any case, those customers who have listened beyond the 'made in ....' label have discovered a rich reward, at a less than rich price.
